Hocus Pocus, Period Corsets Gets Spooky for Halloween

Far Right: Custom Renaissance Faire bodice made from client fabric
Our Period Corsets Renaissance Faire Bodice ran amok through Halloween as it took a turn with the witches from Hocus Pocus. Our client supplied the fabric for her custom corset for her own interpretation of Sarah Sanderson from the movie Hocus Pocus, a classic fan favorite for the spooky holidays.

The final corset constructed from our client's fabrics,

Period Corsets in the pages of CR Fashion Book

Straight from our studios to the newsstands- Period Corsets was featured prominently throughout Issue 9 of CR Fashion Book magazine. This high fashion publication was able to take advantage of our rental service to fill their pages with with some truly wonderful photo spreads.

CR Fashion Book is the latest endeavor from former Vogue Paris editor-in-chief, Carine Roitfeld. This large scale fashion magazine covers everything from runway to celebrity and beyond. Peppered throughout this issue are various pieces from Period Corsets including a large array of our corsets and skirt supports. Showcasing the versatility of a good corset, our many pieces were featured in a large variety of style editorials expanding beyond our usual historical looks.

Among the many fashion-forward style editorials, there was a touch of celebrity style. Showcasing a softer look in our pastel brocades, our corsets were modeled beautifully by Willow Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith. With a feminine and more delicate look, our corsets were a lovely accompaniment to these graceful ladies.

The reoccurring theme for this issue was the ever popular, Queen Marie Antoinette. CR Fashion Book gave us a modern and bold take to this historic fashionista, an icon that continues to inspire today's fashion world. Our 18th century Marie Antoinette corset was the perfect accompaniment to their inspired looks, using our historical shaping but combining the corset with truly modern pairings of denim. Even our c. 1880 Alice took a spin in denim for a truly unique new look.

Beyond the many looks inspired by Marie Antoinette, our pieces went another in direction with some high-fashion bridal looks. Our c. 1860 Julia, a classic hourglass corset, in light blue brocade provided the "something blue" for the willowy bride. Our 18th century pocket hoop pannier also made an appearance, ready to make a statement for that special day.

Since the publication of Issue 9, we have continued to work with the talents at CR Fashion Book. For Issue 11, our classic c.1770 Judith corset was worn by Kim Kardashian West in a recreation of Pamela Anderson's classic Red Carpet look. Kim's look was part of a nostalgic editorial that paid homage to nine iconic celebrity ensembles from the 90's, as modeled by celebrities and models from today.

Empowerment Through Corsets- A Boudoir Shoot

A beautifully made corset can be many things to different people- an accessory to empowerment, a way to sculpt and shape, a proper silhouette for historical attire, an actor's tool to enhance their character for the stage. For Dana Thomas, her corset was a celebration of her form and self-being.

"She wore her scars as her best attire. A stunning dress made of hellfire..." -Daniel Saint

Dana came to us searching for a shapely corset for a wonderful event she was attending overseas, the Secret Cinema Moulin Rouge party in London. For this themed event, guests were expected to come in appropriate attire to match their assigned character. Something so unique deserved a truly special corset.

Accessories for a night of fun

During her fitting, Dana and our team found the perfect style corset to match her needs, our c. 1880 Alice with added straps. Dana brought in her own Chinese brocade fabric, a wonderful find from the depths of a secret stash. We complimented this by adding black satin piping along the top and bottom edges of the corset.

Going beyond the needs of a fancy soirée, Dana also found use for her corset in a boudoir photo-shoot. The  purpose of this very intimate session provided more that just a stunning series of photos, it was a way for Dana to bare her soul as well. It opened up an opportunity for Dana to focus on her true self and what it meant to be comfortable in the skin and body that she was given. In her in-depth blog post, she wrote about the experience and revisited the journey that brought her to who she is today.

"I want to celebrate the body I have today, battered and bruised, scarred by misadventures and medical procedures, and more beautiful than it’s ever been. The girl I once was, now woman incarnate. Stories engraved upon my skin telling a tale to all those who will listen."

""Let life mark you. The best among us have so many imprints left upon us it's like embroidery." Here I am stripped down, stripped away, me and my vulnerability. I've never felt more alive."

Fergie debuts her latest album wearing Period Corsets

Period Corsets went from undercover to the spotlight when pop star Fergie debuted photos for her latest album wearing our c. 1905 Mae corset.

A balance of femine  and sexy, our Mae corset highlights Fergie's hourglass shape, providing maximum cleavage while enhancing her tiny waist.

Photographed by Mert Alas and styled by the fabulous Carine Roitfeld, of CR Fashion Book, Fergie looked smashing in our brocade corset. The super feminine lilac pink rose brocade was a great juxtaposition with the harder, sexy thigh-high boots and bomber jacket, showing just how powerful a woman can look when wearing the right armor!

Such a great reveal to finally see our corset on full display! The first teaser photos from this shoot had Fergie looking amazing with impressive cleavage and just the edges of our corset peeking out below a jacket. Period Corsets fans knew what was hiding but most were kept wondering, what's giving her that sexy shape?!

We know what's hiding underneath that coat!

Period Corsets on the cover of Fergie's Milf$ and Life Goes On

Period Corsets collaborated with photography team Mert and Marcus, and the talented fashion maven Carine Roitfeld to outfit Fergie for the cover of her long awaited new album. Set to be photographed in Paris in late Winter of 2016, Ben Perreira, Carine's assistant and part of the CR Fashionbook team, contacted us requesting corsets.  "Can we have them in Paris on Friday?"
It was Thursday. "Why YES of course!"

In late January, during a bustling Friday at Period Corsets, we received an email with that familiar plea, "We're doing a shoot, we need something quick, send us what you can ASAP!". This has been, and will continue to be our favorite kind of emergency. Every week we get phone calls and emails with a nervous voice on the other end in hopes of finding a solution for their costume and fashion dilemma. "I need it tomorrow and it needs to be custom fit and it has to look gorgeous!" We're on it!

Fergie's corset collection, we sent various styles and fabric choices.
At Period Corsets we work hands on with stylists and designers.  When we're contacted  they explain the scope and concept of  the project. Then we work with them to create a small collection of pieces to choose from so they have multiple options at the ready. For Fergie, the concept was simple:  "extremely feminine and beautiful," colors - black, and white or light pink.  We sent an extensive variety of colors and fabrics in several  Corset styles. Then we wait with bated breath to hear how it goes.  It's always exciting to see which corset is the lucky winner.  And then if our corset makes the final editorial cut!

The lucky winner! Our c. 1905 Mae in Lilac Pink brocade was the choice for Fergie
Sometimes we have no idea which corset the stylists chose until the final photos are released. Luckily for us this time, we had word that our c. 1905 Mae in Lilac Pink Brocade was the corset of choice. It provided the perfect shaping.  Hilary, the owner  of Period Corsets was sure it was ours.  As soon as she saw the photo pop up on Instagram, she can spot a Period Corsets a dècolletage a mile away!

Period Corsets Undercover On the Cover
This time literally our corset is "under the cover". It's hidden there under the cropped edge of the image creating that fabulous pop-star cleavage. As Maxim magazine puts it, .... Fergie looks great, topless..."
ahh! the magic of illusion.

Bespoke with Speed AND Quality
At Period Corsets, we have three standing rules- make it quick, make it the highest quality, make it custom.  Time and again we have come through for our high-profile clients, whether our pieces are on stage the next day underneath a costume on Broadway, sent across country for immediate filming or flown across seas to appear in the pages of a fashion magazine. Our quick turnaround, precision stitching, and bespoke service is what sets us apart. The competition is fierce in the costuming world, with so many larger companies turning to overseas help. Period Corsets has persevered for almost 20 years,  continuing to handcraft all of our pieces in our Seattle studio with highly trained professionals. We strive to be the best for ALL of our clients whether it's an individual like you an me or a celebrity. We have a passion for our art and it shows in every stitch.
